The Conscious Mind Empowerment Method

Turning Knowledge into Action

A Practical Approach to Meaningful Change

The Conscious Mind Empowerment Method (CMEM) is an evidence-informed approach to psychological and behavioral change, developed by Behavioral Change Specialist James Wilson.

Built around two connected phases, Knowledge and Action, CMEM helps individuals understand who they want to be, recognise what might be holding them back and make meaningful changes in their personal and professional lives.

The Knowledge Phase focuses on developing clarity, understanding internal barriers and learning practical skills.

The Action Phase is about putting that knowledge into practice, using the Conscious Mind to guide how they live, even when difficult thoughts and emotions arise.

The Two-Minds Framework

At the heart of CMEM is the Two-Minds Framework, a conceptual model for understanding the different influences that affect how we think, feel and behave.

The Rooted Mind is learned, instinctive and protective. Shaped by upbringing, culture, genetics, evolution and trauma, it can generate unwanted thoughts, difficult emotions and powerful urges.

The Conscious Mind is where wisdom, kindness, values, logic and courage reside.

Learning to recognise these different influences creates an opportunity to act with greater awareness and intention.

Over time, the aim is for CMEM to become less about consciously applying a technique and more about guiding how individuals live.

The 3 Stages of CMEM

Identify who individuals want to be and the direction they want their lives to take. Develop CLEAR Goals that reflect their values and remain actionable despite difficult thoughts or emotions.

1. Set CLEAR Goals

Recognise how unwanted thoughts, feelings and urges generated by the Rooted Mind can influence their choices
and behavior.

2. Unpack & Understand Internal Barriers

Learn and apply practical skills to reconnect with the Conscious Mind, respond differently to internal barriers and take meaningful action towards their goals.

3. Apply the 4-Step Change Process
